The specific final energy consumption refers to the amount of energy that has to be used per kilogram of finished part mass for one production step. According to this, the specific final energy consumption we for sheet steel workpieces, including blank cutting and several deep-drawing processes, is 0.21 kWh / kg.67

For comparison: A multi-stage extrusion process with blank production is given as 0.7 kWh / kg. In bulk forming, the specific final energy consumption is 1.27 kWh / kg.6766

A comparison between deep drawing and extrusion leads to the conclusion that sheet metal forming uses significantly less specific energy than extrusion. However, due to the specific product features of the respective process, extrusion can only be replaced in a few cases.
