If a stamped part has several bending edges that are not in the same plane, you must first decide which edges will be bent first and which will be bent afterwards. There is no general rule for this. In the tool shown, the outside edges are bent first.8
The laterally acting bending punches generate an outwardly directed transverse force. They protrude inwards and must be positioned so that no disruptive edges are created when folded over. If there are high transverse forces, it is advisable to strap around the external bending punches.
